Default GW coming to a console or...?

Found this interesting little tidbit on Ars:

Quote:
We know Guild Wars 2 is coming, but could there be a console port in the cards? A new non-MMO game from the studio? Is there anything else ArenaNet is working on? Miller responded to my question with a laugh and said, "Without specifically naming anything, I can say yes, there is."
Link: http://arstechnica.com/journals/thum...s-of-the-north

So what IS Arenanet working on? PS2/3 port of GW? Something entirely new and different?

My guess, given the NCSoft - Sony deal, is that GW is coming to the Playstation perhaps in a 'slimmed' down form.

Or they can simply create a game using lore that exists in the universe....

I seriously doubt that. It wouldn't be logical for them to release a last generation game for this generation's consoles. If anything, we'll see a MMORPG on the PS3. A free MMORPG on the PS3 would bode well for Sony and the whole MMORPG genre. It could literally change MMORPGS forever seein as how it won't have a subscription fee.

Anyway, for now. We know nothing. Let's just hope that they don't put out some watered down version of GW on the PSP.

I could see this. Sony has signed NCSoft to develop MMO's "exclusive" to the PS3. They have a large pool of stuff they could do, as well as new stuff (besides Anet and GW setting)

Guildwars on a console???

Hold on, select 8 skills, follow target, switch weapon sets, open stuff like maps friend list etc. etc. and above all quick ingame chat. How many buttons can you have on a controller?

And then I'm not even mentioning in game chat (or is it already possible to use vent on the ps3?)

Anyway, how many people does xbox live have? With gold offcourse, less than WoW, I know that, prob about as much as GW, an MMORPG just doesn't work if you have so little people to buy your product.

The comment is throwaway to the point of being meaninglessness, so I wouldn't put much weight on it.

However I suppose it's possible there will be an adventure game set in the GW universe. I believe Elder Scrolls had something similar between II & III.

Sell a keyboard built it? I can get a cheap keyboard for $10, so I'm sure it wouldn't bump the price up that much. ($70 for a free-to-play MMORPG in the vein of Guild Wars? Not so bad, if they had constant updates).

If they're gonna make it for console, it'll be an 3rd person adventure game base in GW world. You'll probably be controlling Devona, Eve or Cynn. They'll have a new sexy outfit, a-list actress voice over and their breast size will be enlarge by 90%, to fit into the marketing mind set of what video game should be like.

Or it'll be total action game starting um.......Mhenlo. Ascalon City. Fugitive Undercover Monk. Nothing to Lose and lotta healing spells.

Because of the instances and stuff as for how guild wars works I think it would be easy to work on the ps3 (I agree though they should put it on the wii instead.. that's more mouse like with the wii mote! ) But yeah also as someone says I don't care because I will not buy a PS3 anytime soon and I already have gw on the computer.

PC-exclusive titles are dying. There was a time a game like BioShock would be unthinkable on anything but the PC. Except for (MMO)RPGs, nearly nothing is PC-exclusive, and the race is on for the first WoW-calibre MMORPG on consoles. There is, of course, the significant problem of running a continuously updated game on a console, but it's surely not insurmountable.

I would be mildly surprised if GW2 weren't released simultaneously on the PC and the XBox.

The Ps3 for a game like guild wars (hopefully GW2) would suit i think. They have the free online playing unlike the xbox which is subscription based, the unit is bluetooth so keyboard integration would be easy. The hard drive would store the game like a pc does and then you access the server like we do now.

Problems i see is programmes like vent etc because as far as i know there is no way (there is actually no need to run this as there is voice comms in most games without third party programme).

... You have to be an idiot to WANT to play an MMO on a console. MMO's belong on the PC, and ONLY the PC.. if you wan't it on a console you have to dumb down the gameplay.. making it suck like most console RPG's and MMO's.
